Autumn Hunnicutt is a contemporary figurative painter based in Trinidad, Colorado. Born and raised in the rural, high deserts of northern New Mexico, her oil paintings often reflect her southwestern roots. She finds inspiration in the natural world and it’s cycles, memory as physical objects, and her fluctuating spirituality within the ethereal southwest. Her work highlights the beauty of nature and the uniqueness of individual creatures by constructing a sense of holiness and all-knowing qualities in her subjects. Hunnicutt spent the better part of her twenties bouncing around the U.S. in search of new adventures. Her experiences living away from home, in various landscapes, and backpacking across the Californian desert, have deepened her respect for new encounters and familiarity. The push and pull between longing for home and longing for new adventures is a driving force behind her paintings. She often utilizes imagery captured during her travels and has recently begun working with photos from her family archive, exploring her own history through genealogy and images.

Hunnicutt has shown work throughout the United States, including a solo exhibition at the A.R. Mitchell Museum of Western Art in Trinidad, CO and a permanent installation within Trinidad State College’s Freudenthal Library. Hunnicutt is currently represented by Raitman Art Galleries in Breckenridge, CO and Keep Contemporary in Santa Fe, NM. She has also been included in a variety of galleries, in both invitational and juried exhibitions, such as Southwest Remix Invitational at Blue Rain Durango in Durango, CO, Grit & Grace Invitational at the William Campbell Gallery in Fort Worth, TX, New Mexico Painters Exhibition at the Kennedy Gallery in Las Vegas, NM, After Dark at the Greg Moon Gallery in Taos, NM, The Crow Show at The Studio Door Gallery in San Diego, CA, and many more. Hunnicutt received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from New Mexico State University in 2018 and her Master of Fine Arts degree from Washington State University in 2022.
